I've been working on reducing my use of social media. I removed the facebook app and then the twitter app from my phone. I check facebook 2 times a day or less (though I admit today was a bit of a relapse). I don't think I'm ready to give them up entirely but much of what you wrote does resonate with me. I think I'm going to make a list of the people I want to stay connected to and work on connecting with them outside of social media.

Hi Athena!! I wanted to share with you that since I read this post, I've been acknowledging the fact that I need a break from social media. I had been saying it out loud for a while, but never had the courage of doing it. I think it's basically FOMO - and the fear of missing contact with some friends with whom we've develop a relationship through social media (basically, friends who live abroad, or who are not my closest friends and then I don't think that often about writing them, and IG stories offer an excuse to speak and share). Yet, it was on December 26th that I finally logged out from IG, and I'm doing the same from FB. At the beginning, I felt relief, knowing I wouldn't have to see everyone's happy faces and great parties on New Years Eve. As weeks go by, I realize I miss knowing from some friends, my cousins living in the US, and I'm worried perhaps some of them posted a picture that they came to Buenos Aires and I don't know about it and maybe I'll miss the chance of seeing them. So it's has been a short journey, but I'm really thankful of actually being living it. And grateful to you for offering this opportunity of searching for really meaningful and authentic relationships. Big hugs!!
